The text was specifically written for the intention of this piece. With great mastery, the text evokes sentiments of the fallibility of human existence but the gratitude we must hold for the earth that gives us everything. It is those gifts that unite each person on earth. The music was written with the intention of evoking a sense of unity through our shared experience. Stemming from a place of unison, I use closed harmonies to emphasize unity – even through hardship – and open them up as we realize a world of love and unity. We are one people and one nation – we breathe together, suffer together, love together and these actions see no colour, nationality, or status. I incorporated words in other languages to further emphasize this point of unity in our home.
